Halloween Carnival in West Hollywood - Oct 31, 2008

The 21st annual Halloween costume carnival took place Friday Night October 31 2008 in West Hollywood, California. Known as the "World's Largest Street Party" the city of West Hollywood closes down about a mile of Santa Monica Boulevard between La Cienega Boulevard and Doheny Drive. The event has grown over the years and is expected to see over 500,000 people for this one night event.

I have seen a large decline over the years in the number of people who dress up in costumes and go door to door asking for the "trick or treat". It seems more and more houses are going dark and not participating in this holiday celebration marking the end of harvest. This is not the case with the West Hollywood Halloween Costume Carnival. The spirits are high and the festivities in full speed. People come to this event form all over to see and be seen. The costumes range from full on fashion statements from the 1700's to the classic home made cardboard boxes. Both have their unique coolness about them and makes this one of the best events of the year to people watch.
